By Australia’s stable jet fuel supply remains secure despite the global energy crisis, with airlines reporting no immediate disruptions to operations. This stable jet fuel supply is supported by strong reserves and steady imports, ensuring continued aviation stability while authorities monitor long-term fuel security risks.
Transport Minister Catherine King stated that airlines, including Qantas and Virgin Australia, have reported no short-term issues with fuel access, as authorities continue close coordination with industry stakeholders.
According to official figures, Australia currently holds approximately 29 days of jet fuel reserves under its minimum stockholding obligations, alongside around 30 days of diesel and 37 days of petrol.
Officials emphasized that scheduled fuel shipments are continuing to arrive as planned, helping maintain stability in the aviation fuel supply chain.
Rising Global Pressures
The reassurance comes as global energy markets remain under pressure due to geopolitical tensions and disruptions affecting key supply routes. Australia, which relies heavily on imported refined fuel, remains exposed to international market volatility.
While there is no immediate impact on flight operations, authorities acknowledged that prolonged instability could lead to broader consequences for the aviation sector and fuel pricing.
Airlines are already feeling the effects of higher fuel costs, with some carriers adjusting fares and operational plans in response to increasing expenses.

Sydney Airport alone consumes an estimated nine million litres of aviation fuel per day, highlighting the scale of supply required to sustain operations across the country’s aviation network.
