Key Facts
- Operator: Breeze Airways
- Location: Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Charleston Yeager Airport (CRW)
- Date: Final operation: January 3, 2027
Breeze Airways Newark operations are set to go dark on January 3, 2027, when the Utah-based ultra-low-cost carrier drops its sole route from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Yeager Airport (CRW) in Charleston, West Virginia. The withdrawal eliminates the only Breeze connection serving the New York metropolitan area.
Breeze Airways Newark: What Is Being Cut and When
Aviation tracking account Ishrion Aviation first flagged the schedule change on X, formerly Twitter. According to that reporting, the Newark–Charleston corridor will operate for the last time on January 3, 2027, after which Breeze will hold no remaining presence at EWR.
The route was the carrier’s single foothold at one of the three major airports serving greater New York — a market dominated by legacy carriers and Southwest at nearby LaGuardia and JFK. However, thin frequency and stiff competition from legacy carriers on the northeast corridor appear to have made the economics difficult for a young low-cost entrant.
Impact on Northeast Passengers
For travelers in New Jersey and the broader northeast, the cut removes a low-fare option to the West Virginia capital. Charleston’s Yeager Airport is a small regional hub with limited nonstop options, so the loss of any nonstop service typically forces passengers onto connecting itineraries through larger hubs such as Charlotte or Washington Dulles.
Breeze Airways launched in 2021 with a strategy of linking underserved city pairs without requiring passengers to connect through major hubs. The carrier operates a mixed fleet of Embraer 190/195 and Airbus A220-300 aircraft. While Breeze has expanded aggressively in the South and Southeast, its northeastern footprint has remained limited.
As a result, the Newark exit marks a continued narrowing of Breeze’s presence in the highly competitive mid-Atlantic and northeast regions. Passengers holding bookings on the Newark–Charleston route beyond January 3, 2027 should contact Breeze directly for rebooking or refund options ahead of that date.
