Bamboo Airways flights have disappeared from sale on the carrier’s own website, with searches across all major domestic Vietnamese routes returning “no flights found” since August 1. The airline is instead offering a limited number of charter flights this month, while operating only one of its three aircraft — a stark sign of how far the carrier has fallen.

Passengers attempting to book individual tickets for August have found no available inventory. The grounding of scheduled services follows months of turbulence for the Hanoi-based carrier, which had previously signalled ambitions to revive its long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliner operations.
Those plans now appear to be in doubt. Bamboo Airways once operated a fleet of widebody 787s on routes to Europe, positioning itself as Vietnam’s premium long-haul option alongside flag carrier Vietnam Airlines. However, the airline scaled back those operations significantly in the face of financial difficulties, and the latest developments suggest the situation has deteriorated further.
A Carrier on the Brink
Operating just one aircraft across what was formerly a broader domestic network represents a dramatic contraction. Charter operations, which require no published schedule and no seat-level inventory commitments, allow an airline to generate some revenue while minimising forward exposure — a pattern typically associated with carriers managing severe liquidity constraints.
Bamboo Airways launched in 2019 and grew quickly during Vietnam’s domestic aviation boom, competing with Vietjet Air and Vietnam Airlines on key trunk routes. At its peak it operated both narrowbody Airbus A320-family jets and Boeing 787-9 widebodies. The airline has faced restructuring pressures for several years, however, and the removal of Bamboo Airways flights from public sale marks a significant escalation in those difficulties.
Vietnam’s aviation regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), has previously intervened in airline financial disputes in the country, and it is standard practice for regulators to monitor carriers closely when scheduled service collapses. Whether Bamboo Airways can secure new investment or broker a restructuring deal will likely determine if it returns to the market at all.
